Morgan Stanley is investing in grooming the next generation of talent at HBCUs around the country.
This week, the finance giant announced that Morehouse College will participate in its new HBCU Scholars program, which is part of the company’s larger mission to promote and advocate for more diversity.
The company will award 60 academic and needs-based scholarships for students over four years, starting in the fall 2021 semester. Morgan Stanley HBCU students at Morehouse will be able to participate in online career training programs within the company.
The company plans on expanding the program to Spelman College and Howard University in the near future,
“Morgan Stanley has a long history of supporting HBCU schools, such as Morehouse, because we believe investing in the education of Black talent is one of the best ways to invest in the next generation of leaders,” said Susan Reid, Morgan Stanley’s global head of diversity and inclusion, in a press statement sent to BLACK ENTERPRISE. “Racial inequity around access to and affordability of higher education can impact Black students’ ability to grow generational wealth, so we are proud to support these dynamic scholars on their path towards financial independence and success.”
“The Morgan Stanley HBCU Scholars program will make college a reality for students in families who could not otherwise afford higher education,” said David A. Thomas, president of Morehouse College. “The gift will not only improve the lives of scholarship recipients; it will also lead to positive changes for communities of color.

Access to education has a huge role to play in ensuring racial justice and closing the racial wealth gap. As part of the commitment we made to diversity and inclusion earlier this year, today we’re announcing a program to provide full scholarships and living expenses for 60 students at three of the United States’ top historically Black colleges and universities. Five students per academic year per school at @Howard1867 @Spelman_College and @Morehouse1867 will be eligible. You can find out more at the link in our bio. #MSGivesBack
