With Pudsey Day 2021 just around the corner, it’s time to start planning your fundraising efforts.

Children in Need is an annual charity event that supports local charities and projects to help change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people all over the country. Each year – much like Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day – there’s a big BBC event that entertains the nation and encourages people to donate to a good cause. Whilst shining a light on the various fundraising ideas undertaken by people up and down the country to raise funds for those in need.

Every year, the appeal show features BBC specials, performances and various fun and games. Last year we saw things like Mock the Week and The Repair Shop meets Children in Need, plus a 24-hour PE challenge from Joe Wicks. And we’re sure that 2021 will no doubt see the return of the Strictly Come Dancing 2021 Children in Need special too.

When is Pudsey Day 2021?

Children in Need’s Pudsey Day will take place on Friday 19th November 2021.

We’ve yet to learn details of the Children in Need telethon for 2021. But if it’s anything like previous years, the show will run on BBC One from 7:30pm – 2:30am with an all-star presenter line up. Plus they’ll be a host of Children in Need TV specials, which in the past have included ones by Strictly Come Dancing, Doctor Who and The One Show.

This year’s Pudsey Day theme has been revealed as “together we can”. And several celebrities – including Joe Wicks, Professor Green and Laura Whitmore – have come forward to shared their own experiences with mental health, poverty, disability and bereavement. In the hopes that disadvantaged children and young people can see they’re not alone and there are ways to make these issues better.

How to fundraise for Children in Need 2021:

If you want to get involved in Pudsey Day 2021, you can raise money in many ways.

BBC Children in Need have plenty of ideas to help you get started including sponsored walks, bake sales, or if you’re feeling very brave, a head shave!

They’ve also shared some BBC show inspired fundraisers from the likes of Strictly, Countryfile and The One Show too:

  • Get your Strictly On: Dress up in some sequins, add some sparkle to your cake bakes or host a dance-off. You can download some Pudsey special Strictly props too for the occasion.
  • Get your boots on: BBC Countryside is asking you to get together with friends or family for a walk and turn it into a fundraiser for BBC Children in Need. You can download your Get Ramble Ready fundraising pack now.
  • Pedal for Pudsey: Take on your own mini Rickshaw Challenge for 2021 – made famous by former The One Show presenter Matt Baker – and get sponsored for a bike ride. Find their Pedal for Pudsey fundraising kit online for extra help and guidance.

BBC Breakfast weatherman Owain Wyn Evans has also signed up to a 24-hour drumathon for the charity on 12th December.

At 6.55pm on the Friday before Pudsey Day 2021, there will be a special BBC One TV performance where everyone will come together for Owain’s Big Bang. And they’re encouraging viewers to bash a pot or pan, bin lid, bucket or cardboard box to the same tune. Owain will be joined by 50 drummers who will help lead the country in a rousing performance of the BBC News theme.

If you’re unable to fundraise – you can still just make a straight donation. And there are various ways you can donate to Children in Need. You can donate online, by text or by phone, and some banks, building societies and post offices accept in-person donations too.

If you’d prefer to donate by post, then you’re asked to send a cheque and not to send cash in an envelope.
